The past couple of weeks have continued to highlight the return to a more normal routine. Staff and students are settling into familiar work, building relationships and focusing on learning and growing.
All of our schools have completed assessments and are concentrated on ensuring students are receiving the interventions and extensions that they need to be successful. The focus of our district, and specifically our dedicated staff, is to help our students get back on track academically and return to grade level performance. Our staff members are giving their all to meet this goal. That makes me extremely proud and excited to see our student progress.
I was also excited to hear about a tremendous weekend of community building through the homecoming festivities. The homecoming parade made a return after a three year hiatus (photos below). The homecoming dance had around 900 students attend. And what about that football game!

FGSD Bond
One of the main focuses of the upcoming bond measure is increasing the safety and security of all schools in our district. The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. If the bond passes, the district will focus on further improving the entrances to our school buildings. The district will also construct a new vestibule entrance at Neil Armstrong Middle School which will provide better line of sight for the front office. Upgraded fire systems and seismic improvements will also be improved.
As our school buildings age, there are many natural issues that arise requiring the attention of our amazing maintenance crew. These dedicated individuals do the hard work to keep our buildings in working order and provide an environment in which our students can learn and grow. However, with age, critical infrastructure becomes worn out and can no longer work properly. With the bond, building maintenance will continue to focus on these areas. Aging building exteriors will be repaired while electrical, plumbing and roofing will be modernized and repaired.

Joseph Gale Elementary to add Pre-K classroom
The district was informed that we have received a Preschool Promise Expansion Grant. This will allow for additional pre-k classrooms for students who meet the requirement for Preschool Promise to be added at Echo Shaw and Cornelius Elementary Schools. In addition, a new classroom will be created at Joseph Gale Elementary. The district will hold informational/registration nights at Cornelius and Echo Shaw.

Las últimas dos semanas han seguido destacando el regreso a una rutina más normal. El personal y los estudiantes se están adaptando al trabajo familiar, construyendo relaciones y enfocándose en aprender y crecer.
Todas nuestras escuelas han completado evaluaciones y se concentran en garantizar que los estudiantes reciban las intervenciones y extensiones que necesitan para tener éxito. El enfoque de nuestro distrito, y específicamente de nuestro personal dedicado, es ayudar a nuestros estudiantes a volver a encarrilar académicamente y regresar al nivel de rendimiento de su grado. Los miembros de nuestro personal están dando todo para alcanzar este objetivo. Eso me enorgullece mucho y me emociona ver el progreso de nuestros estudiantes.
También me entusiasmó escuchar acerca de un tremendo fin de semana de desarrollo comunitario a través de las festividades de bienvenida. El desfile de bienvenida regresó después de una pausa de tres años (fotos a continuación). Al baile de bienvenida asistieron alrededor de 900 estudiantes. ¡Y qué decir de ese partido de fútbol!

Bono FGSD
Uno de los principales enfoques de la próxima medida de bonos es aumentar la seguridad de todas las escuelas de nuestro distrito. La seguridad de nuestros estudiantes y personal es nuestra prioridad número uno. Si se aprueba el bono, el distrito se concentrará en mejorar aún más las entradas a nuestros edificios escolares. El distrito también construirá una nueva entrada en el vestíbulo de la Escuela Intermedia Neil Armstrong que brindará una mejor línea de visión para la oficina principal. También se mejorarán los sistemas contra incendios mejorados y las mejoras sísmicas.
A medida que nuestros edificios escolares envejecen, surgen muchos problemas naturales que requieren la atención de nuestro increíble equipo de mantenimiento. Estas personas dedicadas hacen el trabajo duro para mantener nuestros edificios en buen estado de funcionamiento y brindan un entorno en el que nuestros estudiantes pueden aprender y crecer. Sin embargo, con el tiempo, la infraestructura crítica se desgasta y ya no puede funcionar correctamente. Con el bono, el mantenimiento del edificio continuará enfocándose en estas áreas. Joseph Gale Elementary agrega un salón de clases de Pre-K
Se informó al distrito que hemos recibido una Subvención de Expansión de Promesa Preescolar. Semana Nacional del Almuerzo Escolar
El personal del distrito estuvo en los edificios esta semana para ofrecer algunas sonrisas en la celebración de la Semana Nacional del Almuerzo Escolar. El personal se divirtió mucho y a los estudiantes les encantaron las "papas sonrientes".
